We Are Birmingham understand that ex-Blues player, Brummie and Blues fan, Lee Carsley, is set to rejoin Birmingham City in the next few days.
Carsley will join as a coach of the under 23 development side after leaving his role as Man City under 18 manager, reportedly to be closer to home in the Midlands, last month.
He was highly thought of by staff and fans at Man City and his resignation was a massive blow.
In his first, and ultimately only season, he guided his Manchester City youngsters to the U18 Premier League North title along with getting them to the final of the FA Youth Cup final, in which they were beaten by Chelsea.
Nottingham Forest are also thought to have been interested in snapping up the services of the Brummie. However it is thought that along with the club being close to his heart, Lee is impressed with the ambition currently being shown by Blues.
Carsley may also be able to help give Redknapp inside information on any potential young loanees, or even prospects released by the Manchester club.
It is unknown as to whether he will work alongside current Under 23 coach Richard Beale at this stage.
Carsley Update
Blues have now officially announced the appointment of Carsley in a the role of the club’s ‘Head Professional Development Coach’. The official announcement also states that Richard Beale will remain in his role and “will assist” the Carsley.
